This year’s conference in Fort Worth is focused on “Emerge,” and we are looking for engaging, timely, and relevant sessions that address this theme and location. For reference, here’s TxA President Nicki Marrone’s expanded description:
“Our profession is primed to embrace forthcoming change, not just now, but always. We’re developing methods to combat climate change and effects of the built environment. We’re evolving new delivery methods and design tools. We’re creating strategy for pandemic response. We are working towards equity through what we design and within the profession.
We do this because we adeptly operate within the evolving global landscape, every day. We understand that how we inhabit spaces affects what we perceive and how we engage everything else. We must anticipate by creating spaces that respond to changing relationships, politics, culture, and power. We are uniquely qualified to impact issues big and small: our work at its core provides healthy spaces, safer places, and wellbeing for all. We are moving beyond the traditional definition of what this means; let’s use our skills together to solve crises, build community, and create beauty. Let’s be loud, make waves, and keep moving forward.”
In addition to the obvious interest in design, we seek presentations that represent a wide range of topics, including practice, accessibility, community engagement, sustainability, historic preservation, mentorship, EDI (equity, diversity and inclusion) and more.
The Texas Society of Architects (TxA) is committed to championing a culture of social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion within the architectural community and presentations are highly encouraged to reflect this in both their content and speakers. Also encouraged are interactive presentations (panel discussion, live Q&A/audience participation, slide show/visual presentation etc.) and those that qualify for HSW credit.
